Farmers will tell you that nothing impacts their business more than the Weather. For those that are engaged in engineering for public projects, Government and Politics has the greatest impact on business, yet engineers are reluctant to participate in the real blood sport of politics.
Dave Bender, Executive Director of ACEC-Illinois since 2013 has built a 31-year career in local, state and federal government and the political arena in Illinois. Dave has served on three Presidential Campaigns (George H.W. Bush 41, Sen. Bob Dole and George W. Bush 43), served as a Director and Deputy Campaign manager for former Illinois Governor Jim Edgar in 1990 and 1994, was the chief of staff for the state’s first Lt. Governor, served as a cabinet officer in the Edgar Administration (Asst. Director of Agriculture) and a senior advisor to Bill Brady for Governor (2010) and to Governor Bruce Rauner’s (2012) exploratory campaign for Governor.
In addition, Dave has chaired the campaign of former Illinois Congressman Ray LaHood, assisted in the appointment of Congressman Rodney Davis and chaired the selection committee in the appointment of State Representative Tim Butler. Dave has also advised, chaired or managed the political campaigns of over 40 local candidates, losing only 2 races. Dave also served as the GOP Chairman of Logan County for 8 years and is the co-founder and current co-chair of the Illinois Business Immigration Coalition.
In this session, Dave will speak about the importance of involvement in government and how the involvement of you and your firm in your state and national association equates for better business.
